Take THAT Brute Force & Cynicism…

Because the Desk of the Velvet Scribe is a locked tight, friends only kind of affair, I thought I’d repost this because of its sheer awesome.

So about a month ago, Matt Smith & Chris Hardwick guest starred on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. There was SUPPOSED to be this epical musical introduction to open the show and introduce any non-Whovian viewers to the the whole idea and why the guest stars were so awesomecakes.

Unfortunately, the producers failed to get clearance to use the theme song and so that whole section had to be dropped. WOE!

Apparently Craig Ferguson was pretty irate about it, and from watching the video YOU CAN SEE WHY! GO GO you tiny plush puppets of informative exposition! :D

Little Girl Lost: The Anachronism

The Anachronism – Check out the full steampunk squid film
– Watch more Tech Videos at Vodpod.

I’ve had this short film open in my tabs to watch since April. >_<;; FINALLY I watched it today and though I found the American accents of the cast a little jarring (apparently in my head all steampunk MUST HAVE British accents – which makes zero sense, but go figure xD) its quite a lovely little lilting piece of film: WHICH FEATURES A SPACE SQUID.

Need I say more? xD

Ah, Gigi. I love you, but you’re so wrong, oh so very wrong…

I’m not sure Greg’s actually ever SEEN Gigi before, and I was totally delighted that it came on TV. The comments he’s been making are HILARIOUS, he had no idea why I was SO EXCITED at the beginning when the old guy started to sing. Ahahahaa, as Steffi says, HonorĂ© Lachaille is the most debonair of all the pedobears. xD

And then, this:

Greg: So, is this move Pride & Prejudice?
Me: No, cause Pride & Prejudice doesn’t have whores in it.
Greg: Sure it did,
Me: Well, Okay, so if you ignored the fact that Elizabeth has sisters…
Greg: Yes, if you’re assuming Elizabeth is independent from everything else.
Me: OKAY! Well if its JUST Lizzie & Darcy, and you pretend that they’re in France and there’s whores everywhere: Yes. This is Pride & Prejudice.

We’re so old, every story is always delineated as another… ^_^;;

☆ 3/5 Leather Bound Books
⇒ Its a solid kid’s movie. Competent, has everything there, magic, mystery, and a little mayhem. Got a MASSIVE squee out of Jennifer Connelly’s cameo considering her role vs Paul Bettany’s, even though it was decidedly lack lustre. Great cast, who do exactly what their roles require of them but not much more. Not a lot more to say about it other than ‘solid’ really. xD

Man, this would be SO USEFUL in real life..!

Adobe Photoshop Cook from Lait Noir on Vimeo.

Jenji comes through with the linkie goodness goods once again! Though this clip feels a little long, I COVET this as it would make baking so much easier! xD And could you imagine all the awesome decorating control you would have?! MAN! Screw hover cars and jetpacks, I wish the future had included this.

A call to arms…

Deadwood = uberness
I have a little favour to ask anyone who would care to answer the call. We’re having a Western Themed event for Bec & Erik’s combined Hens & Bucks show. And. Well. We need music. xD

We don’t want to listen to terrifying Country & Western all night (though a few choice tracks will be peppered in I’m sure) but its actually hard to come up with stuff that’s good and STILL party atmosphere! xD

We’ve got the Deadwood soundtrack, umpteen versions of These Boots Were Made for Walking, some other Nancy Sinatra, a little Tom Waits but… Honestly? We can’t really just have that on repeat all night. xD

SO! Does anyone have any suggestions? Songs with v. wild west lyrics? Music that sounds like its straight out of the era? I’d LOVE to hear them! I’ve probably got much much more than I think in my collection (I’m sure I’ve got Will Smith kicking around here ;)) but anything even for a memory jog would be epics!

Edit: I asked Greg if he was going to suggest something TERRIFYING (he’s very into death metal and post metal) but he took one look at the post and announced that I “..need the Young Guns Soundtrack!” and MY GOD he’s right. Also some Zeppelin that would work perfectly. YAY!

THANKS IN ADVANCE, ARMS CALLER ANSWERER TYPE PEOPLES! :D

Where was that again..?

Against her better judgement, Jenji linked me this piece of golden gold. SHINING GOLD, GOLD OF THE LAND OF COMMUNISM AND PANDAS!

(Honestly I had a mental blank about whether or not China was the land of shining sun or if that was Japan. So I asked Greg what China was the land of and THAT’S what he came up with. Oh. And bamboo. GREAT EXPORTS YOU GOT THERE, CHINA!)

But honestly the REAL gold is in the comments:
Its definitely Korea man. Well, maybe its Poland...

This TOTALLY inspires me, for my birthday this year, to have a marathon of this documentary series: AS A DRINKING GAME. Every time they say the word China you drink. Its ~educational~!

Oh, and CHINA!

Well that settles it…

Amy Acker is the CUTEST EVER (as always) in Julie & Julia
I’ve left this blog and quite a few others dormant this last month or so, since my health has taken a rather swift nose dive and real life is a merciless slave driver as I’m sure EVERYONE knows.

But. A few hours ago, a resplendent Bec flew into our room all aglow and announced that, after wanting to watch it since she’d first heard about it, she’d just finished watching Julie & Julia that she thought it was LOVELY, that I’d especially enjoy ‘Julia’s’ … Well its hard to replicate on the page, let’s just go with her exuberant sound… ;) And if Greg didn’t mind did I want to watch it before I went to sleep.

Having been entranced by its concept when Bec first told me about the film months ago, I managed to persuade (and by persuade I mean flippantly ask if he’d mind in a casual manner with a kiss or two for good measure) Greg to let me watch it and carefully went to the lounge to take Bec up on her offer.

WELL! After thinking I’d watch it while doing some other things I was utterly taken by the first ten minutes, turned off everything, shut my computer and started it from the beginning to pay PROPER attention.

I loved EVERY SINGLE MOMENT! It was just, joyous, and fun, and INSPIRING! When I rate it for my darn movie challenge (this is the FIRST movie we’ve seen this month – SLACKERS!) I’ll be rating it out of butter. Delicious, glorious, sticks of butter. And I’m mentally ready to BURST FORTH into the kitchen and cook up a zillion storms and blog about them profusely.

Now if my damn body would just oblige me.

But I don’t care, next week while at Mum & Dad’s I’m planning on taking LIBERAL liberties with their stand mixer and get January & February’s Daring Baker’s challenges done and dusted. And hopefully DELICIOUSLY!

I saw my genius massage therapist, Mr Beaton, today and I’m going to see him again the Tuesday following our return anyway, so he can undo any punishment I’ve done to myself over that week. Which I’m sure wont be that much since my darling partner will be looming over me the whole time making hrrmmmmm faces and generally telling me to rest. WHICH I PROMISE TO HEED.

Mostly.

PS: FORMAL FIFTIES DRESSES WITH POCKETS! WHAT A TRIUMPH!! *adoration*

2010 Movie List: Jan 01-04: Life as a House, And Soon the Darkness, Moon & Trilogia: To Livadi Pou Dakryzei

Rules & Guidelines:
1. Keep track of every film watched throughout the year.
2. First time movies only (for either myself or my partner).
3. Review each.
4. Attempt 12 movies per month minimum.

Last year in March a few friends and I attempted to start a 50 Movie Club in which we’d watch 50 movies and record them all to our journals. Unfortunately due to an EXPLOSION in life events I managed to post two films before that utterly died.

So this year, a reboot. 12 months, 12 movies per month (minimum), for 2010. That’s a lot of ones and twos. And I like it.

To try and not OVERWHELM myself or readers, I’m posting reviews four up. Cause its a tidy little number that fits into 12 nicely. That and I’m already sitting at 13 films… xD

RECOMMENDATIONS ARE WELCOME! Though we already have quite an impressive list, we’re always looking for more and I’m pretty much up for anything, though don’t kill me if I absolutely hate your favourite movie ^_^;;;

☆ 3/5 Stapleguns
⇒ Much better and simultaneously much worse than I was expecting. The whole film reeks of “I am trying to get an Oscar, and I bet I will.” But that’s sometimes okay too. Hayden Christiansen’s niche role as ‘whiny confused emo kid’ is played out to the hilt, Kevin Kline pulls your heartstrings as you know he can. The rest of the cast is predictably endearing/mainstream quirky and as such are solid in their roles. One thing that irked me greatly though? WTF STAPLEGUNNING LIGHTS ONTO THE GORGEOUS TIMBER BEAMS?! AUUUUGH!! All that beautiful hardwood, ruined! ;_;

Thirty Day Challenge. Day 03: Your Favourite TV Show

I admit, I’m bad at picking ONE thing alone that I love. And my favourites – especially with tv – change so frequently depending on my mood, where I am in my life and, in this case, how CRAP the writing has gotten… xD

But, in terms of CURRENT TV, I’m going with the three shows I most care/fangirl about. Though, bear in mind I’m not including shows like Top Gear, Grand Designs or ANYTHING River Cottage. Cause otherwise this list would be six. Which I guess it is now. Huh.

ANYWAY, so about those “three” tv shows… *whistles* read more »
