Just stumbled across the synopsis of this novel, Bitter Seeds, by Ian Tregillis and I’ve got to say? Interest is piqued! It sounds exactly the kind of anachronistic ludicrous that I enjoy:
Raybould Marsh is a British secret agent in the early days of the Second World War, haunted by something strange he saw on a mission during the Spanish Civil War: a German woman with wires going into her head who looked at him as if she knew him. When the Nazis start running missions with people who have unnatural abilities a woman who can turn invisible, a man who can walk through walls, and the woman Marsh saw in Spain who can use her knowledge of the future to twist the present Marsh is the man who has to face them. He rallies the secret warlocks of Britain to hold the impending invasion at bay. But magic always exacts a price. Eventually, the sacrifice necessary to defeat the enemy will be as terrible as outright loss would be.
One thing I’m completely confused about? The rather substantial uselessness of the actual bitter seeds website. O_O Its some stuff thrown together in Photoshop with some links to where they buy the book. Not even any blurbs or useful searchable information. O_O;; WHY DOES IT EXIST?! Not the correct kind of ludicrous, unfortunately…
Though I have ZERO patience for cross-stich on this kind of scale myself (I can’t ever get the backs to look as neat as I’d like! xD Yes, that’s right, I don’t do it because I don’t like the part you CAN’T SEE xD) I’d SO LOVE this whole set in reality. EEEE! The really fat stripey teacup is totally my favourite. So paunchy! xD
So while I’m randomly posting stuff at half past one in the morning… OMG I just founnd this thing of BEAUTY at Amazon.com! Along with its good mate, the Simplicity Rotary Cutting Machine. HOLY CRAP ON A STICK! How freaken useful what THESE have been when I was making Greg and myCactus costumes?
SOOO getting my hands on these puppies, the amount of applications of them are SOOO endless! *sewing gasm*
Jenji linked me this blog post @ homeshoppingspy, squeeing about NEW Giant Lego storage boxes, . AND. WITH. GOOD. REASON..! HOLY CRAP THE STACKABLENESS AND THE COLOUR RANGE AND… AUUUGH!!
Who needs adorable vintage kitchen canisters if you’ve got lego?!
Kitchenaid Artisan Mixers: Blueberry or Apple, that is the question
OKAY SO THIS LIST HAS LESS SUPER GORGEOUS THINGS ON IT THAT I WAS EXPECTING! It also has less quirky stuff on it than I was expecting. Apparently most of what I want is achingly practical. WHAT’S THAT ABOUT!? xD But still, the IDEA of a lot of these things has me salivating – especially as whenever I try and make anything on the Damn Daring Bakers Challenges, they always require me to use something that I don’t own so I dodgy up other things in their stead. xD I’d like to be less dodgy – or as a friend put it, ~~INNOVATIVE~~ – especially when it comes to using a stand mixer with all the delicious attachments.
The faithful and long serving electric hand beaters we have are on their last legs… Recently using it its motor started to kinda.. Burn… ^_^;;
Apple Butter on Marianne Dashwood from Shop Yarn Love
I was bullied by my mans last night into posting a birthday wishlist. As I have no real idea on what I actually WANT O_O;; I decided to instead use it as an excuse to go check out some massive pretties that I’ve been avoiding doing because WHO HAS MONEY FOR THAT?!? xD So this way its not REALLY torture, its research. *nods*
What follows is Part One of my ~research~ xD YARN LOVE!! A whole mess of yarns from stores that I’ve wanted to try out for AGES because the photos make me want to touch them so completely..!
Only problem is, I’m MORE than sure I’d be terrified of getting them dirty when actually cooking/baking. Which isn’t exactly what one wants out of an apron. But still: DO WANT! ♥
I have NEVER before heard of Kubrick Blythes, which is, as far as I’m concerned, CRAZY FACED as they’ve been around for the best part of a decade by all accounts. I’ve hung out on Blythe forums, scoured all sorts of photo resources for Blythes over the years, and I own ACTUAL Blythes. Well, not ones from the 70s, but you know what I mean.
HOW HAVE I NOT HEARD OF THEM!? And now that I have. DO. WANT! O_O;; I especially love the photoshoot of that second mosaic-ed blythe, the Zombie Kubrick Blythe, savaging poor Totoro. xD
Oh good. Because I needed to find more local crack dealers. *headdesk*
Last night I stumbled upon Australian fabric store, Earthgirl Fabrics. THEY. SHIP. FOR. FREE. WITHIN. OZ. Great. Awesome. Just when you think you have some money… *laughs*
There’s some really great prints and some favourite fabric print designers among their ranges; its a dangerous mine field. And they also stock some must-have patterns – especially if you’re into gift making:
